Birthday treats

When you’re living in a town like Bakersfield you don’t really expect your birthdays to be anything out of the ordinary – but how wrong could I be? Helen (bless her) had concocted a merry little succession of videos and greetings from my nearest and dearest – of course, if you’re reading this you probably already know that.

I want to thank every last person that contributed something but that would take me till the end of next week so I’m copping out and writing this instead. THANKYOU to everyone that had something to do with this – particularly Andy and James (you fellas know why). When so many people club together to produce something as memorable as this then you get genuinely emotional about it. Trust me. The phrase "lost for words" is probably overused but when my regular morning meeting at work was interrupted by the sight of my family, friends and work colleagues on the big screen right next to me wishing me Happy Birthday then the phrase is very appropriate and everyone who was there with me will vouch for that.

I thought it’d be nice to share what Helen put together so without further ado, here’s what YOU put together for my birthday. Thank you once again – this has been a very special birthday.

First up is my friends and family. I know Helen went to a lot of trouble putting this together and I know she had great help from Andy (who you see in the video) as well. Thanks mate.

You’ll see (in order) Laura and John, Brendan and Margaret, newlyweds Serena and fat Pete White, Gresh Peters, Jim bob Gardner and myself looking particularly dashing, Wayne Wainwright with a monologue, Greg and Gaz, Imran Zaffar, the Gaggster, Emma Duschesne, the "Horsforth" boys, brother Daniel and Jenny, me mam, Mr Britcliffe, Mrs Britcliffe, my wonderful amazing fiance Helen and last but not least, little Annabel Wade.

Next, Sam and Keeny whose videos arrived just a little too late to make it into the proper one unfortunately but it does mean they both get a slot here of their own.

The next one game me the shock of my life when it started playing. This is a team of people from Microsoft that I have quite a lot of dealings with at work. I have to admit I don’t know all of them personally but I’m honoured that they took the time out to produce this. Thank you all!

Next is the inimitable Donald Farmer. Donald is another great guy (not to mention a mean chef) at Microsoft that I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past few years.

There’s more. Here’s a bunch of messages from some old school chums, uni chums and post-uni chums. It includes wardie who somehow I’ve managed to know for 27 of my 30 years.

That’s all. Thanks again once everyone.
