Thoughts, about stuff

Return Live Search results as an RSS feed

leave a comment »

Sometimes when I’m blogging I like to throw info up here just so that I can get at it later. Today is one such time.

It is possible to return results of a Live Search feed in formats other than normal HTML. Observe.

Here’s some search results:

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=popeye

If I want that returning as an RSS feed I add an option to the end of the URL:

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=popeye&format=rss

Raw XML is also an option:

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=popeye&format=xml

You can also return results from a search macro. Here’s some results from my SSIS search macro:

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q1=macro:jamiet.ssis&q=expressions

returned as RSS:

http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q1=macro:jamiet.ssis&q=expressions&format=rss

RESTful APIs as well. Cool!!
