[In this series of blog entries I’ll be exploring what else you can do with your Windows Live ID other than access Windows Live products and services. See the complete list here.]

We all know that Google reigns supreme in internet search but that’s not to say that they get all the glory and there are other search features out in the wild that are worthy of your attention. Chief amongst these features is Live Search Cashback:

imageLive Search Cashback allows you to search for products that you want to buy and then offer you money back (sometimes as much as 20%) if you click through to the online vendor and end up purchasing the product. Here’s Live Search Cashback explained in their own words:

For example, check out this search for a pair of shoes:

image If you purchase from ShoeMall via Live Search cashback then you get a whopping 19% discount off the store price – $5.89 in your back pocket for something you were going to do anyway. Not bad!

I think of it as a similar scheme to those cashback credit cards that many companies offer these days – if you’re going to buy something anyway then you may as well get paid for doing it, right? I know lots of people that are happy to use a credit card if it means they get an extra 1% of the money back, why not use Live Search Cashback and get even more?

Why am I talking about it here? Well, of course, the whole system is administered using your Windows Live ID:

imageYou use your Windows Live ID to sign-in to your Live Search Cashback account and redeem all that free dosh that you accumulate.

At the time of writing Live Search Cashback is only available in the USA but I hear that that might be changing pretty soon.
